Do you believe in ghosts?
The view on this subject is different for many people I was inspired to write about this due to a story that a friend told me on how the "paranormal" has been affecting her lately. I'll start this blog off with a short story of my paranormal experience followed by my views. It might sound a little crazy, and believe me, every time I've told this story ( to the few that actually know it ) I feel crazy.
Enjoy!
Late one night, I was traveling down a dead end road with a friend of mine. The road didn't have any street lights, and it seemed to be barely paved. A lot of the back roads in my old town weren't paved. If they were paved they weren't paved correctly, lol. As we made our way down the street, the fog was thick and it was humid out. The windows of his car were starting to fog. It was like a scene from a movie. I was looking down at my phone skimming through facebook. I put my phone down in the cup holder and began to stair into the night. I'm not exactly sure what made me do this but I reached over and locked the car doors. For some reason, I was feeling a little uneasy. I continued to stare at the road which seemed to be getting longer and darker. I looked a little further down the road, and I could see a white object. It seemed small, like an animal, so I warned my friend. He just kept going saying "It'll get out of my way." We got closer to the object, but my friend didn't see it. I screamed at him "STOP!" He slammed his breaks and looked at me sternly. "Why did you scream stop?!" I looked forward, and in front of the car was a white figure. He or she was small. The figure was wearing a helmet, and the chin clips were dangling from each ear. The bike had training wheels, and streamers hanging from the handlebars. I looked at my friend and, don't you see it? I looked forward again and it was gone. I told my friend nevermind, we took a breath and went on our way.
I know the story above sounds crazy. I'm sure there are tons of accusations after you all have read this. Believe it or not, it isn't a story that I share with many people for that reason. There are people out there who don't believe in the paranormal. That's your choice, and I don't judge you for that. I didn't really believe in that stuff either until I had that happen to me. The details of the figure were so clear. I've always wanted to do some research, but I've always been afraid of what I might find.
That leads me to a quick analyzation of my beliefs. As I stated above, my belief in the paranormal was not existent before that moment. I wasn't raised in a religious household, so we didn't talk about the afterlife. In fact, one of my greatest fears (one of the things I have panic attacks about) is my fear of death. I enjoy my life, and I can't imagine it being better anywhere else. I am aware it is inevitable, but I don't want my family and friends to feel grief when it happens. Life is an absolute gift and I've learned to cherish it every single day.
After that experience, I did start to research a little on the paranormal. I didn't look into "deaths" that could have possibly happened on that road or anything like that. However, I quickly came to realize that I didn't know much about the afterlife. People find it hard to believe in the "unseen". They are afraid of the unknown, so they just avoid it. Horror defines our boundaries and illuminates our soul.
Just remember, just because you haven't seen a ghost, doesn't mean a ghost hasn't seen you.
As always,
Artistically Yours
